Master the Point Combinations series

I am VERY excited about this workshop series. After spending nearly two years planning, researching and then writing ‘The Principles and Practical Application of Acupuncture Point Combinations’ (due to be published by Singing Dragon in September 2019) I have the opportunity to discuss and then practice some of the Chinese medicine themes and their point combinations with you.

Acupuncture point combinations can be used via a wide range of perspectives/angles, depending on the physical or mental complaint the patient presents to you with. Therefore, choosing the right perspective for every patient can be a challenge. This challenge can be nullified substantially by understanding why point combinations differ in their effect and effectiveness.

This workshop series is designed to give you a better understanding of what makes point combinations a great therapeutic tool. You will learn this via theoretical and practical applications of a wide range of different combinations. This will help you become a better therapist that will not rely as much on trial and error, rather on your deep understanding of how to choose and use the right point combination at the precise moment.

This, of course, raises the question, ‘What is the right point combination at the precise moment?’ The answer will depend on the correct diagnosis. So, these workshops will also give you a greater understanding of how diagnosis and possible point combinations go hand in hand.

Three part workshop series

The workshop series is divided up into three parts, all of an equal standard. This series isn’t designed like some others where they have a beginner, intermediate and advanced level. I want as many people as possible to take advantage of my research so each part of my workshop series gives a lot of different point combinations, but all of a fairly equal standard.

For me, the more workshops you attend, the more advanced you will naturally become with acupuncture point combinations.

Each of the three parts to the series has their own abstract which outlines more specifically what is being taught over the three days of the workshop. Overall, there are 40 acupuncture point combination concepts theorized, and then practically applied, for the three workshops. So, as you can see, the more you attend, the more advanced you will become at acupuncture point combinations.

To close, we need to remind ourselves that, in the end, it all comes down to Qi. The better you listen to the diagnostic Qi, the more you know what needs to be moved to restore the natural Qi of the patient. And if you know what needs to be moved at what level, you will be able to choose the right point combination for that patient at that exact moment in time; and how perfect is that?

How the Workshop is Presented

The workshops will include both theory and practical teaching styles including:

1. Theory:

  • Each of the three days is divided up into different Chinese medicine themes all designed to give participants a greater understanding of how to master acupuncture point combinations.
  • At no stage is the workshop content designed to be out of reach for any of the attendees regardless of their level.
  • Cases studies will be introduced at various points in the theory section. These are designed to give attendees a ‘real life’ clinical example of how the different themes work.
  • Questions and answers (Q and A) are encouraged and therefore have been allocated dedicated times throughout the three days.

2. Practice:

  • The lecturer will give demonstrations for some of the acupuncture point combinations.
  • Attendees are given plenty of opportunities to observe the lecturer demonstrations and then practically apply these acupuncture point combinations. This can be done by practicing on themselves, other attendees, and possibly the lecturer himself.

Expectation of Knowledge

The following content would be advisable for participants to have a base-level understanding of before attending the workshop. This is not absolutely necessary in order to attend, but it will make it easier to follow the workshop. All topics discussed will have some written content provided plus a brief, or detailed, discussion by me before any practical application.

Therefore, if you can be a little bit familiar with the following:

  • Locations and needling methods for the 156 points I have requested for you to learn. These points will be sent to you in a separate document after registration.
  • Zang Fu Patterns of Disharmony.
  • Five Spirits/Wu Shen and Seven Emotions/Qi Qing.
  • Five Elements/Wu Xing.
  • Basic anatomical terms which relate to locating acupuncture points. Also understand other terms used to locate acupuncture points such as distal and proximal, lateral and medial, anterior and posterior, superior and inferior, palmar and dorsal, radial and ulnar, etcetera.
  • A base level understanding of the proportional measurements used to locate acupuncture points. For example, the distance between the elbow crease and the wrist crease is 12 cun.
  • Be happy enough to do some needling on other people, as well as to be needled by others at various stages during the workshop.

Content of the course

I will provide relevant documentation and discussion on Acupuncture point combinations for:

  • Zang Fu Patterns of Disharmony.
  • The same Signs and Symptoms.
  • Triangle of Power.
  • Open the Four Gates.
  • Windows of the Sky/Windows of Heaven.
  • Ma Dan Yang Heavenly Star points.
  • Sun Si Miao Ghost points.
  • The Great Five.
  • Chain and Lock.
  • Seven Emotions/Qi Qing.
  • Five Spirits/Wu Shen.
  • Five Elements/Wu Xing – Sheng/Generating cycle, Ke/Controlling cycle, Cheng/Overacting cycle, Wu/Insulting cycle.

If you are confused by anything that is discussed during the workshop, I have ensured there are opportunities to ask questions. I will also provide you with my email address so you can contact me in the future if necessary.

Even if you are not able to fulfill all of the knowledge expectations above, I am happy to accommodate you in the workshop as long as you do have some basic knowledge of Chinese medicine and needling.

If you can do some/all of those things for me it will certainly make the workshop run smoother. I have an amazing workshop planned for you all and I’m sure you will learn a lot of new and interesting skills and ideas to take away with you for future healing.

Join me for this must-attend workshop. You will be glad you did, but more importantly, your patients will be too!
